The Azerbaijani Ekol Muhendislik Xidmetleri (engineering services) CJSC, developing "Kursengi" and "Garabagli" onshore fields, completed the first stage of oil slime utilization and re-cultivation at these fields upon the contract signed with Salyan oil company, the company said on Aug.3.
Process of mechanical re-cultivation was completed within the first stage. Roughly 35,500 cubic meters of oil slime and 15,600 cubic meters of polluted water were removed from the designed areas in January-July. Moreover, 67,400 cubic meters of soil were brought and rammed.
The second stage of project, envisaging biological re-cultivation of fields, will be launched on August. It is expected to be completed by late 2009.
The major purpose of this project is to improve the ecological situation of these areas, expand the company's cooperation with new partners and improve economic opportunities of the enterprise in terms of global financial crisis.
The Salyan oil company plans to drill four exploitation wells on the cultivated fields in 2009.
Co-founders of Ekol Muhendislik Xidmetleri are SOCAR (51 percent of shares) and Lancer S.A. Services (49 percent of shares). Ekol Muhendislik Xidmetleri was established on March 1, 2006 to solve ecological problems in the Absheron peninsula, SOCAR official website said.
