Fuel prices may grow in Kazakhstan

Kazakhstan, Astana, Sept. 17 / Trend D. Mukhtarov /

The owners of gas stations in Kazakhstan have appealed to the Oil and Gas Ministry to review the maximum retail fuel price, or to set a threshold price for wholesalers, the Seventh Channel reported today.

The owners say they suffer huge losses.

They added that wholesale fuel price is persistently rising.

They said they buy petrol 92 at 93 tenge per liter (about 65 cents per liter).

If the plant increases the prices, the wholesale price will reach 100 tenge (70 cents per liter). The margin obtained from the sale will be miserable, so the owners of filling stations appealed to the Oil and Gas Ministry with a request to increase the difference between wholesale and retail prices up to 30 percent.

It is reported that the Oil and Gas Ministry is not going to intervene in the situation as of yet.
