Agency: Total takes mendacious attitude towards Iran
Azerbaijan, Baku, Feb.24 / Trend F.Mehdi/
French multinational oil and gas company, Total, has taken a mendacious attitude towards Iran in developing Iran's Balal oilfield, the Pana News Agency reported.
In 2000, Total signed a deal with the National Iranian Oil Company to conduct seismic and exploration operations at Balal oilfield.
The French company had not provided exact information to Iran about the fact that the oilfield was associated with the South Pars gas field. So, Iran lagged for a decade behind Qatar in exploiting the natural gas layer of the oilfield.
Therefore, the Iranian Gas Association will file a complaint against Total at international courts.
Balal oil field is situated about 100 kilometers (62 miles) southwest of Lavan Island in the Persian Gulf and near Iran's maritime border with Qatar.
The Balal gas layer follows the eastern side of the giant South Pars Gas Field, and is estimated that the site contains approximately 183 million barrels of recoverable gas condensate reserves.
