Libya to increase oil export by 28 percent

In February 2013, Libya exported 50 million barrels of oil, increasing oil exports by 28 percent compared to January, a report of Libyan National Oil Company, released on its official website on Tuesday says.

In January 2013, Libya exported 39 million barrels of oil.

According to the report, 43.9 million barrels of the total exported oil were exported by the National Oil Company; the rest is exported by private companies. Thus, in February 2013 Libya exported on average 1.8 million barrels of oil per day.

According to the report, the country's income from oil exports in February amounted to $4 billion.

Oil production in Libya in February was 1.9 million barrels per day. The total volume of oil production in February comprised 55 million barrels.

According to the report, in February 2013, most Libyan oil was exported to Italy - 10.5 million barrels (30 percent of total exports), France - 4.5 million barrels (14 percent), Spain - 2.8 million barrels (8.3 percent).

During the reporting month, Libya exported 999,000 barrels of oil to Turkey (2.9 percent). In general, during February Libya exported oil to 15 countries.

4.2 million barrels of oil were directed to the needs of the domestic market, according to the report.

Libya is the eighth largest producer of oil among the 12 member states of the Organization of Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC), and third in Africa after Nigeria and Angola.

Libya's proven oil reserves total 45 billion barrels. Prior to the revolution Libya was producing 1.5 million barrels of oil per day. Oil exports restarted in 2012.
