Iran plans to increase the supply of diesel fuel for passenger cars in a bid to decrease air pollution and reduce gasoline consumption, the Mehr News Agency quoted Iranian deputy oil minister Abbas Kazemi as saying on Nov. 16.

The supply of diesel fuel is projected to be increased by 24 per cent by the end of the current Iranian calendar year (March 20, 2014), he said, adding that cars consume 30 per cent less diesel fuel than gasoline in the same distance.

Boosting the supply of diesel fuel will also lower dependency to gasoline, he noted.

Iran's average gasoline consumption stood at 66.92 million liters per day in the week to November 8, the IRIB News Agency reported.

The country's average gasoline consumption in that week showed an 18 million liter decrease compared to the preceding one.

Over 6.534 billion liters of gasoline was consumed in Iran during the summer.

Iran's average gasoline consumption stood at around 71.6 million liters per day in the previous Iranian calendar year, the ISNA News Agency reported.
