Bulgaria wants Nabucco gas pipeline project to be unfrozen, Bulgarian FOCUS News Agency reported citing the country's Prime Minister Boyko Borisov.

"We want Nabucco pipeline project to be unfrozen and more precisely - its part through Bulgaria," Borisov said after the meeting with Azerbaijan President Ilham Aliyev.

Borisov said that Bulgaria, which is the EU member, met all legal requirements in terms of the energy package in contrast to many other countries.

He said that it expected that the project will be presented before the European Commission.

Borisov also said that Azerbaijan is a strategic partner for Bulgaria.

The consortium of the Azerbaijani Shah Deniz field development selected the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) as the gas transportation route to the European markets. TAP is designed to transport gas from the Caspian region via Greece and Albania and across the Adriatic Sea to southern Italy and then to Western Europe.

Nabucco West was the second pipeline that competed for the transportation of Azerbaijani gas to Europe. It was proposed to transport gas from the Turkish-Bulgarian border, transiting Hungary, Bulgaria and Romania to the Central European Gas Hub at Baumgarten, Austria.
