Sumgait, Azerbaijan, Sept. 14
By Maksim Tsurkov – Trend:
Construction of the carbamide plant of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR has been completed by more than 40 percent, the plant’s director Khayal Jafarov told reporters in Sumgait Sept. 14.
He said that in general the work on the project has been implemented by more than 80 percent and the detailed design stage has been fully completed.
“More than 96 percent of the equipment produced by leading companies of Asia, Europe and the US is already in Azerbaijan, and currently their installation and assembly is underway,” said Jafarov. “The plant’s construction has been completed by more than 40 percent.”
He pointed out that the process of laying underground communications and pipelines has also been completed, and currently work is underway to mount metallic and other surface structures.
“The construction is planned to be complete by late 2017, after which a testing period will begin. After the tests, the plant will be handed over to SOCAR,” said Jafarov.
The plant will produce 1,200 tons of ammonia per day, and natural gas will be feedstock there, he added.
Ammonia will be used for carbamide production, said Jafarov, adding the plant will produce 2,000 tons of carbamide per day, or around 700,000 tons per year.
“This will make it possible to fully meet the domestic demand and sell the remaining part in foreign markets,” said Jafarov, adding that Turkey, where the carbamide consumption is high, is considered as the main market.
South Korea’s Samsung Engineering is general contractor in the plant’s construction.
