TPAO receives license for exploration of oil and gas in Turkish provinces

The state-run Turkish Petroleum Corporation (TPAO) has received a license for exploration of oil and gas in the provinces of Siirt and Batman, the Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources of Turkey told Trend Sept. 12.

The license has been issued for exploration of oil and gas on the territory with a total area of 6,000 hectares.

"TPAO appealed to the ministry on July 19, 2018 in order to obtain a license for oil and gas exploration in these provinces," the ministry said.

It was also noted that the "Tekirdag Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret A. S." company has also received a license for the exploration of oil and gas.

"The "Tekirdag Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret A. S." company has received a license for exploration of oil and gas in the provinces of Kirklareli and Tekirdag on the territory with a total area of 32,000 hectares," the ministry said.

According to the provided information, the "Tekirdag Enerji Sanayi ve Ticaret A. S." company appealed to the ministry in this regard in March 2018.

The law permitting oil exploration in forests and national parks came into force in Turkey in April 2014.

According to the report of the ministry, a total of 56 wells have been drilled as part of exploration of new oil and gas fields in Turkey since 2014, of which 54 are onshore, and two are offshore.

Around 1,863 exploration work was carried out in Turkey to search for new oil and gas fields as of late 2017.
