BP increases gas production in Azerbaijan

In the first quarter of 2019, the Shah Deniz field of Azerbaijan produced 4.3 billion standard cubic metres (bscm) of gas and about 1 million tonnes (7.5 million barrels) of condensate in total from the Shah Deniz Alpha and Shah Deniz Bravo platforms, Trend reports referring to the BP report on the 1Q2019 results.

In the first three months of 2018, the company extracted 2.7 billion cubic meters of gas and about 600 million tons of condensate (5 million barrels) from Shah Deniz.

The existing Shah Deniz facilities’ production capacity is currently more than 56 million standard cubic metres of gas per day or more than 20 bcma.

BP Azerbaijan is the operator of the Shah Deniz field.

During the 1Q2019, the operating costs of the project amounted to about $191 million, while capital costs reached about $267 million. Most of the capital costs was associated with the work in the second stage of field development.

In 2018, 11.5 billion cubic meters of gas and more than 2.5 million tons of condensate (20.5 million barrels) were produced at the Shah Deniz field.
