By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

Residents of the highland settlements of Georgia, namely 207 families in 87 villages, have been equipped with solar panels, said Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia Ilia Begiashvili, Trend reports citing Georgian media.

He made the remark at the presentation of the report on the projects implemented in the regions.

According to him, with these panels the residents can not only turn on light bulbs, but also use household appliances.

The panels were installed in seven regions of Georgia: Mtskheta-Mtianeti, Shida-Kartli, Samtskhe-Javakheti, Imereti, Racha-Lechkhumi and Kvemo-Svaneti, Kakheti and Adjara.

The power of the solar panel is 1,500 watts. This is enough to simultaneously turn on several household appliances (TV, refrigerator, etc.).

Technical support for the implementation of this project to the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia was provided by the energy program of the United States Agency for International Development (USAID / Energy Program).

In the framework of this project, municipalities transferred 207 families the right to unlimited use of solar panels. Meanwhile, the solar power plants were provided only for villages with permanent residents.

The installation of solar panels was carried out by the Georgian information and communication company UGT, which will also deal with their subsequent warranty service. The battery manufacturer's warranty is 25 years.

This initiative of the Government of Georgia was funded by the High Settlement Development Fund.
