Crude shipping via Caspian Pipeline Consortium soars in Apr. 2020

Crude shipping by Marine Terminal (MT) of Caspian Pipeline Consortium (CPC) amounted to 5.3 million tons in April 2020, which is 1.1 million tons of 30 percent more than in April 2019, Trend reports with reference to the CPC.

The CPC said that the number of tankers released by the МТ was 52 in April 2020, which takes the total number of vessels handled in the first four months of this year to 212.

Of the 5.3 million tons shipped in April 2020, some 2.4 million tons accounted for Kazakhstan’s Tengiz field, 836,609 tons for Karachaganak, 1.3 million tons for Kashagan, and remaining 71,432 tons for other Kazakh producers.

Overall, Kazakhstan shippers transported 4.6 million tons in April 2020 while 686,657 tons of oil shipments accounted for Russia. The April delivery schedule was completed in full.

The report said that over the period from 2001 through 30 April 2020 the Tengiz – Novorossiysk pipeline transportation system transported 668.1 million tons net as 582.8 million tons of this oil originated in Kazakhstan and 85.2 million tons accounted for Russia.

Total number of tankers processed over this period has amounted to 6,287 tankers.

CPC Pipeline System is one of the major investment projects in energy sector with participation of foreign capital in the CIS.

The length of the Tengiz–Novorossiysk Pipeline is 1,511 km; it transports over two thirds of all Kazakhstan export crude, as well as crude from Russian oil fields, including the Caspian Region. CPC Marine Terminal is equipped with three Single Point Moorings (SPM) that allow to load tankers safely at a significant distance offshore, also amid poor weather conditions.

CPC Shareholders: Russian Federation (represented by Transneft – 24 percent and CPC Company – 7 percent) – 31 percent; Republic of Kazakhstan (represented by KazMunayGaz – 19 percent and Kazakhstan Pipeline Ventures LLC – 1.75 percent) – 20.75 percent; Chevron Caspian Pipeline Consortium Company – 15 percent, LUKARCO B.V. - 12.5 percent, Mobil Caspian Pipeline Company – 7.5 percent, Rosneft-Shell Caspian Ventures Limited – 7.5 percent, BG Overseas Holding Limited – 2 percent, Eni International N.A. N.V. – 2 percent and Oryx Caspian Pipeline LLC – 1.75 percent.
