Bitumen production volume has exceeded the 2020 plan in Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan's Minister of Energy Nurlan Nogayev said, Trend reports citing Kazakhstan's Central Communications Service.

Nogayev said that this year's plan for the production of diesel and jet fuel has been decreased, however, the bitumen production plan was increased year-on-year. Overall, the 2020 bitumen production plan is 984,000 tons, which was already exceeded.

"In accordance with the orders of Kazakhstan's president, a number of support measures were taken during the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as the plans within Employment Roadmap. Numerous social facilities were overhauled, maintenance was held. Especial attention was paid to road works. All of this required use of bitumen and thus its production volume amounted to over 1 million tons, having exceeded the plan for 2020," Nogayev said.

Nogayev also noted that the initial 2020 oil extraction plan was 90 million tons, however, later the plan was decreased to 85 million tons due to the COVID-related decrease in the demand. Thus, the oil refining plan also was decreased from 17 million to 16 million tons. At the same time, measures to avoid overflow of refineries and reservoirs art plants were taken.
