By Tamilla Mammadova – Trend:

The development of the Georgian energy sector is progressing rapidly, said the Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Natia Turnava, Trend reports via Georgian media.

She made the remark while presenting the 2020 report of the Ministry of Economy.

"The creation of the necessary legislative framework for the implementation of reforms in the economic sector has almost been completed, an energy exchange has been established, which is operating in a test mode," she said.

In 2020, important energy projects were implemented aimed at strengthening the country's energy independence: a hydroelectric station with a total installed capacity of up to 670 megawatts was commissioned or moved to the stage of construction.

"TPP 'Gardabani-2' with a capacity of 230 megawatts, equipped with the latest technologies, was put into operation. Recently, the expression of interests has been completed for the third combined cycle heating plant with a capacity of 272 megawatts - "Gardabani-3," Turnava noted.

As she noted, numerous projects for the development of energy infrastructure have also been implemented: two new trunk gas pipelines, substations, high-voltage power lines, etc. have been built.
