Turkey to ask Russia for discount on natural gas imports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Feb. 26

Trend:

Turkey will call on Russia for a discount for natural gas imports, Trend reports on Feb.26 referring to Turkish media.

The Turkish national pipeline company BOTAS hasn’t announced the price of Russian natural gas, the media said.

"According to preliminary data, Ankara will require a discount on Russian natural gas at the beginning of March 2021," the reports said.

The reason for this, as the media reported, is Turkey's discovery of natural gas reserves in the Black sea, which are to be exploited in 2023.

Currently, Turkey imports gas from Azerbaijan, Iran and Russia. Besides, Ankara signed agreements with Algeria, Nigeria and Qatar for the supply of liquefied natural gas.

In 2019, exploration drilling work was carried out in Turkey to search for hydrocarbons, 5,063 exploration wells were drilled. During the year, the total depth of exploration drilling operations amounted to over 9.5 million meters.
