Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline is currently transporting Russian, Kazakh and Turkmen oil along with Azerbaijani oil, Azerbaijan’s Deputy Prime Minister Shahin Mustafayev said at the 24th St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (Russia), Trend reports.
"We are connected by sea with the Kazakh ports of Kuryk and Aktau and have built a modern port on the Caspian coast, as well as the important Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway line connecting the railways of Russia, Azerbaijan and Georgia with Turkish railways and providing direct access to the Mediterranean," he noted. "Presently we’re observing an increase in the volume of cargo traffic from Russia through the territories of Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey in the Mediterranean direction.”
The deputy PM also noted another aspect of cooperation related to the international transport corridor.
“This is an energy corridor. We are already developing a feasibility study for the construction of the North-South energy corridor with partners from Russia and Iran. This is a new aspect of the North-South corridor (Russia, Azerbaijan and Iran)," he further said.
Mustafayev reminded that, according to the World Economic Forum, Azerbaijan ranks 27th in the world for the quality of the road network, 11th for the efficiency of railway transport and 12th for air transport, 25th for port services.
Azerbaijan has six international airports and two more are under construction, which will be located in the liberated territories [liberated from Armenian occupation]. It’s also planned to build an airport in the liberated (from Armenian occupation as a result of the second Karabakh war from late Sept. to early Nov.2020) Kalbajar district, added the official.
