By Klavdiya Romakayeva - Trend:

In the first quarter of 2021, Uzbekistan bought three times more Turkmen gas from Gazprom than it could export to China (0.54 billion cubic meters), Trend reports with reference to the report and memorandum of the new issue of Gazprom's Eurobonds.

According to the report, Gazprom supplied 1.5 billion cubic meters of Turkmen gas to Uzbekistan in 1Q2021.

It was stressed in the message that Uzbekistan has turned from a seller to a buyer of Gazprom's gas. Thus, Uzbekistan supplied Gazprom with 3.8 billion cubic meters of gas in 2018, increased supplies to 4.9 billion cubic meters in 2019, and stopped them in 2020.

Also, it was noted that a fresh memorandum confirms that in the first quarter of 2021, Uzbek gas was not supplied to the Gazprom.

Moreover, according to the memorandum, in 2020, Gazprom began delivering Turkmen gas to Uzbekistan. Thus, 0.9 billion cubic meters were supplied in 2020 and 1.5 billion cubic meters in 5M2021.

In May, General Director of Gazprom Export Elena Burmistrova commented on the situation with Uzbek gas, noting that the Central Asian countries are now developing very rapidly, and Uzbekistan is not an exception.

“We see a big increase in consumption in this country. Therefore, of course, to one degree or another, gas purchases are reduced, because the state directs gas for its own needs,” she explained.
