A preliminary feasibility study is being developed for a project to connect the electrical grids of the western zone with the Unified Energy System (UES) of Kazakhstan, Minister of Energy of Kazakhstan Nurlan Nogayev said, Trend reports citing the Kazakh media.

Nogayev made the remark during the reporting meeting in front of the population at the site of the Central Communications Service.

“The unification can be realized through the construction of a 500 kV line along three possible routes: from the city of Aktobe to the city of Atyrau; from the city of Zhezkazgan to the city of Atyrau; from Shymkent to the village of Beineu, Mangistau region,” said Nogayev.

The minister added that in order to strengthen the electrical grid of the western zone of the Unified Energy System of Kazakhstan, a project was launched to build power grid facilities of the second circuit of the existing 220 kV transit Uralskaya - Pravoberezhnaya - Inder - Atyrau - Kulsary - Tengiz.

“The implementation of this measure will provide reliable power supply to consumers in the western regions and use the potential of gas generation in the region as a flexible capacity to regulate imbalances in the country's energy system,” Nogayev explained.

The minister also stressed the need to strengthen electrical grids in the southern regions of the country due to the threat of emergency shutdowns.

“This will require the construction of a 500-kV power transmission line in the direction of UKGRES-Zhambyl-Shymkent, as well as the modernization of existing electrical networks," he added.
