Iran increases electricity imports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, July 6

By Sara Riazi - Trend:

Iran’s electricity imports have increased to 650 megawatt-hours due to increase in electricity consumption in the county in recent days, the Spokesman for the Ministry of Energy of Iran Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi said, Trend reports citing the ministry.

The spokesman stressed that Iran is importing electricity from neighboring countries, and the situation will return to normal in the coming days.

Rajabi Mashhadi added that an increase in air temperature of 1 degree means an increase in electricity consumption of 1,500 megawatt-hours. Therefore, the situation in electricity consumption in Iran is very difficult.

“Iran's power plants can generate 54,000 megawatt hours of electricity, at present. Yesterday on July 5, a record figure was set in Iran's electricity consumption, which was 66,200 megawatt-hours. This is 8,000 megawatts more than last year's peak period and 10,000 megawatts more than on the same day last Iranian year,” he said.
