Companies in Iran sign contract on production of needle coke

Iran's Shazand Oil Refining Company, Research Institute of Petroleum Industry and Tarh O Palayesh Engineering Company have signed a contract on the production of needle coke, the Shazand Oil Refining Company representative told Trend.

“The Shazand Oil Refining Company will implement the plan under a contract and will produce 90,000 tons of needle coke a year. The weight of sulfur in the produced needle coke will be a maximum of 0.55 percent,” the report said.

According to preliminary estimates, the plan will cost about 290 million euro.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director of Iran’s Shazand Oil Refining Company Gholamhossein Ramazanpour said that by March 2025, a plant will be built at the company to produce 90,000 tons of needle coke per year. The plant will fully meet the needs of the steel plant for the production of graphite electrodes in the Ardakan County of Yazd Province.

The Shazand (Imam Khomeini) Oil Refining Company was launched in 1993 with the capacity to process 150,000 barrels of oil per day. The company currently processes more than 250,000 barrels of oil.

It also produces more than 17 million liters of gasoline and 12 million liters of diesel in accordance with the Euro 4 standard as well as 500 tons of propylene, 400 tons of granular sulfur and 2,000 tons of liquefied gas per day.
