BAKU, Azerbaijan, December 20

By Amina Nazarli - Trend:

Pakistan is eager to complete energy projects with Turkmenistan on time, Trend reports via Business Turkmenistan.

This was stated by Pakistani Foreign Minister Shah Mahmoud Kureishi during a meeting with his Turkmen counterpart Rashid Meredov in Islamabad on December 18.

The meeting took place as part of the Emergency Meeting of the Council of Foreign Ministers of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation on the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan.

During the meeting, special emphasis was placed on collaboration in the energy sector. In this regard, it was noted that joint actions were taken to intensify interactions on the Turkmenistan-Afghanistan-Pakistan-India (TAPI) transnational gas pipeline project, power transmission lines (PTL), and fiber-optic communication along the Turkmen-Afghanistan-Pakistan (TAP) route.

The construction of the TAPI gas pipeline, which has a total length of 1,814 km and a pumping capacity of 30 billion cubic meters of natural gas per year, began in Turkmenistan in December 2015.

The project was approved by Russia, the USA, a number of other countries of the world, as well as international financial institutions, in particular, the Asian Development Bank.

Pakistan's contribution to the implementation of TAPI will be $200 million, out of a total project cost of $10 billion.
