Iran wants to connect to the European electricity network through Azerbaijan and Russia, Iranian Deputy Energy Minister Homayoun Haeri told reporters, Trend reports citing Iranian Energy Ministry.
The deputy minister said that studies are underway in this regard. He added that Iran has electricity exchange with all neighboring countries.
“At the same time, discussions are underway with the countries around the Persian Gulf on the connection of the electricity network via submarine cable,” he noted.
Haeri also stressed that Iran's electricity exchange capacity with neighboring countries is currently 2,000-3,000 megawatt-hours. Hopefully, the figure will reach 10,000 megawatt-hours by 2023.
Meanwhile, work is underway between Iran, Azerbaijan and Russia on a project to establish a North-South energy corridor. The necessary work on this project is carried out by the Monenco Iran Consulting Engineers Company.
