Azerbaijan’s Garadagh Solar Power Plant after its commissioning will allow the country to save 110 million cubic meters of gas, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov said at a press conference on the plant’s groundbreaking ceremony, Trend reports.

"The design capacity of the Garadagh power plant will be 230 megawatts, and its construction is planned to be completed by the end of 2022,” Shahbazov noted. “With the new station, Azerbaijan's annual electricity generation from renewable energy sources will reach 3 billion kWh. Moreover, we’ll be able to increase the export of electricity.”

According to the minister, it’s also planned to build a wind power plant in the Karabakh region.

"Within the framework of the memorandum of understanding signed today, it’s planned to study the potential of Azerbaijan in the field of generating electricity from solar energy, and to use renewable energy sources with a design capacity of 180 megawatts on the railways," he added.
