BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 4. The carbamide plant of Azerbaijan’s state oil company SOCAR doesn’t expect a high competition for its product, the plant's director Khayal Jafarov said, Trend reports with reference to SOCAR.
“Growing carbamide production in the region [Turkmenistan already has a carbamide plant, while Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan are planning to have one] doesn’t have a negative impact. First, carbamide enjoys high demand at present. The sharp rise in prices for natural gas, which is the main raw material for carbamide production, has led to the closure of some European plants producing fertilizers. That’s to say, the supply volume decreases, while demand is growing continuously. Therefore, we don’t expect high competition. Second, our carbamide has its market share and we are in a very favorable location in terms of logistics. We can uninterruptedly supply our carbamide towards the Black Sea and world markets,” he explained.
The groundbreaking ceremony of SOCAR’s carbamide plant was held in 2011. İt was designed and constructed by South Korea’s Samsung Engineering. The plant, which was commissioned in January 2019, is capable of producing 2,000 tons of carbamide per day and 660,000 tons per year. It occupies an area of 40 hectares in Sumgayit Chemical Industrial Park and has ammonia production, carbamide production units and auxiliary facilities.
