Iran eyes to boost electricity generation

BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 5. Iran will add 1,000 megawatt-hours to the generation capacity of power plants by using knowledge-based methods by this summer, Iranian Energy Minister Ali Akbar Mehrabian said, Trend reports citing Iranian Energy Ministry.

The minister noted that these methods will not cost much money and will not use additional fuel to increase production.

“In addition, 500 megawatt-hours of electricity will be added to the country's electricity generation capacity with the launch of renewable energy power plants,” he said.

Meanwhile, over last Iranian year (March 21, 2021 through March 20, 2022), it was planned to add 6,000 megawatt-hours of electricity to the country's electricity generation capacity. Its 4,500 megawatt-hours were related to plans for thermal power plants, Mehrabian also pointed out.

The total capacity of Iran's power plants (thermal, hydroelectric, nuclear, renewable, and so on) is currently about 85,559 megawatt-hours. About 81 percent of which is accounted for thermal power plants. Iran's electricity generation capacity is planned to be increased to 120,000 megawatt-hours by March 20, 2025,
