BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 22. Azerbaijan's solar plants produced a total of 3.8 million kilowatt-hours of electricity in January 2023, which is 21.9 percent more than the same of the last year, Trend reports via the State Statistics Committee.
During the reporting period, the sector of electric energy, gas, and steam production, distribution, and supply produced products and provided services totaling 316.8 million manat ($186.3 million manat), an 8.3 percent increase over January 2022. The volume of production and services in the water supply, waste treatment and recycling sector amounted to 35 million manat or $20.5 million (an increase of 15.4 percent).
According to the committee, 2.602 billion kWh of electricity were produced in Azerbaijan in January this year, which is 8.1 percent more than in the same period of 2022. Of these, 2.532 billion kWh was commercial electricity, which is 8.2 percent more year-on-year.
Of the total electricity production in Azerbaijan, hydroelectric power plants produced 64.1 million kWh, a 14.9 percent decrease year on year, while thermal power plants produced 2.459 billion kWh, a 9.1 percent increase year on year.
During the reporting period, wind power generation in Azerbaijan amounted to 4.6 million kWh, which is 31.3 percent less than in January 2022.
