BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 15. Azerbaijan's wind power plants generated 26.2 million kilowatt-hours (kWh) of electricity from January through May 2023, Trend reports.
According to the State Statistics Committee of the country, this figure increased by 55 percent on an annual basis.
During the first five months of this year, in the sector of electric energy, gas, and steam production, distribution, and supply, products and services totaling 1.3 billion manat ($760 million manat) were manufactured and provided, which is a 5.5 percent increase over year.
In the reporting period, the volume of production and services in the water supply, waste treatment and recycling sector amounted to 213 million manat or $125.29 million (an increase of 16.5 percent).
Meanwhile, 11.16 billion kWh of electricity were produced in Azerbaijan, which is 5.9 percent more than from January through May 2022. Of these, 10.7 billion kWh was commercial electricity, which is 5.9 percent more year-on-year.
Of the total electricity production in Azerbaijan, thermal power plants produced 10.07 billion kWh, a 7.2 percent growth year on year, while hydroelectric power plants produced 657.6 million kWh, a 12.2 percent decrease year on year.
From January through May 2023, solar power generation in Azerbaijan amounted to 25.2 million kWh, which is 4.6 percent more than in the same period of 2022.
Over 28.98 billion kWh of electricity was produced in 2022 in the country with an increase of four percent.
