BAKU, Azerbaijan, Oct.2. The STAR oil refinery, a part of the State Oil Company of Azerbaijan (SOCAR) in Türkiye, reported a production of 15,557 tons of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in July 2023, in contrast to 19,336 tons produced during the same month in 2022, Trend reports.

This data, sourced from the Turkish Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK), reveals a year-on-year decline of 19.5 percent in the production of LPG at the refinery.

The STAR refinery, with an investment cost of $6.3 billion, commenced operations in October 2018, with approximately $3.3 billion of the project's expenses financed through loans.

The annual refining capacity of the STAR refinery is approximately 10 million tons, and the facility has the capability to process 214 thousand barrels of crude oil per day.

SOCAR Türkiye has plans to temporarily suspend the operation of the STAR refinery for maintenance in 2024. This will mark the first such suspension since the refinery's commissioning. The planned maintenance activities will be carried out, and as a result of measures taken thus far, the aim is to extend the interval between refinery shutdowns for maintenance to five years, potentially resulting in savings of up to $40 million.
