Rise in Prices for Diesel Fuel Expected in Georgia

Georgia, Tbilisi / Trend corr N. Kirtskhalia / The price of diesel fuel in Georgia will soon rise by an additional 0.05 - 0.08 lari per litre, the chairman of the board of the Georgian Union of Oil Producers, Importers, and Consumers NGO, Vano Mtvralashvili, reported.

According to Mtvralashvili, the price for diesel fuel in the world market has dramatically increased, which will negatively affect Georgia. "The price for one ton of diesel fuel in the world market comprises $650, which is $50-$70 over the index of the past 20 days. It is therefore evident that the price for diesel fuel will soon rise in Georgia by an additional 0.05 - 0.08 lari per litre," Mtvralashvili noted.

The price for a litre of diesel fuel imported from Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan makes up 1.3-1.35 lari in the Georgian retail network, while the price for a litre of diesel fuel imported from Europe comprises 1.5 - 1.55 lari.

Nevertheless, in Mtvralashvili's opinion the prices for petrol in Georgia will remain the same. "The prices for petrol in the Georgian trade network will not rise, because the international price for petrol has dropped dramatically in the past week," he said.

The chairman also noted that the price for a ton of petrol makes up $700, what is $30-$50 less than last week. The price for a litre of petrol imported from Azerbaijan (А72) comprises 1.45 - 1.50 lari in Georgian retail network, while the price of a litre of petrol imported from Europe is 1.55 lari.
