Azerbaijan, Baku / corr Trend A.Badalova / Heydar Babayev, the Azerbaijani Minister for Economic Development, stated on 2 August that a Memorandum on Co-operation between Azerbaijan and Greece relating to gas will be signed on Thursday.
"During my visit to Greece in July we held a commission and it was confirmed that one of Azerbaijan's goal is the export of our own gas to Europe. We decided to lay a foundation of co-operation in this sphere and signed the relevant documents. The memorandum is ready for signing which may be completed today [2 August]," the minister emphasized.
The commissioning of the gas pipeline, which will deliver natural gas from the Shah Deniz field to Greece and Italy via Turkey, is scheduled for 15 September.
On 26 July Italy, Turkey and Greece signed an agreement to construct a pipeline section which was to connect Turkey with Greece and to operate by the end August. Work on the construction of the pipeline between Italy and Greece is to be launched in 2008.
