USAID to develop infrastructure projects in Georgia

The Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), Trend reports citing the ministry.

The document was signed by Georgian Deputy Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure Mzia Giorgobiani and Chief of Party of USAID in Georgia Brian King.

Based on the memorandum, the parties agree to initially prepare six infrastructure projects in four selected municipalities. The designed projects will be transferred free of charge to municipalities for further implementation.

Projects will be developed for the municipalities of Zugdidi, Tsalenjikha, Khashuri and Kareli for water supply networks, drainage channels and protective gabions.

The memorandum also provides for future cooperation between the parties, which includes the financing of other infrastructure projects in the target regions.

Construction and restoration of water supply systems and providing the population with clean water is one of the priorities of the Ministry of Regional Development and Infrastructure of Georgia, the ministry said.
