Import Price Index up in Georgia

The Import Price Index (MPI) in August 2019 increased by 0.8 percent over the previous month in Georgia, while compared to August 2018 the Index increased by 13.6 percent, Trend reports referring to the Georgian National Statistics Office (Geostat).

Compared to August 2018, the prices were 12.5 percent higher for manufactured products, while products of the mining sector increased by 21.1 percent. With regard to electrical energy, gas, steam and hot water, the prices were 73 percent higher.

In August 2019 Producer Price Index (PPI) for Industrial Products increased by 2 percent compared to July 2019, while compared to the corresponding month of the preceding year the index growth amounted to 11.1 percent.

The prices for manufactured products increased by 2 percent compared to July 2019, resulting in a 1.63 percentage point contribution to the overall monthly PPI change. Within the group noteworthy price increase was registered for food products, beverages and tobacco (2.6 percent).

For electrical energy, gas, stream and hot water prices went up by 2.3 percent, contributing 0.26 percentage points to the overall monthly index growth. The prices went up by 2 percent for products from mining and quarrying and contributed 0.14 percentage points to the change of the monthly index. Within the group the prices increased by 2.5 percent for metal ores and other mining and quarrying products.

The annual PPI rate was mainly affected by price changes for manufactured products: the prices increased by 11.8 percent, contributing 9.55 percentage points to the overall annual index growth.
