Uzbek President Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a decree on measures to develop the country's hand-weaving industry, Trend reports citing the Uzbek Ministry of Justice.
The mechanism of granting subsidies is applied to compensate up to 50 percent of transportation costs by road, air and rail, while exporting.
In accordance with the decree, from January 1, 2021, at the expense of the State budget, farms producing animal products are granted subsidies in the amount of 2,000 soum (20 cents) for each kilogram of merino sheep's and angora goat's wool, sold by them to craftsmen and organizations specializing in hand weaving of carpets.
Merino sheep and angora goats will be provided with pasture land in Jizzakh, Kashkadarya, Namangan, Samarkand, Surkhandarya and Tashkent provinces.
Moreover, persons engaged in manual carpet weaving and silk weaving will receive subsidies to cover the cost of purchasing carpet weaving and silk weaving machines in the amount of 2.2 million soum ($215.2) for each machine.
Since the beginning of 2021, Tashkent will host the International Hand-made Oriental Carpets Festival once every two years (in October).
