Kazakhstan's gold reserves up month-on-month

The gross international reserves of Kazakhstan’s National Bank amounted to $32.8 billion in Jun. 2020, bank’s preliminary data said, Trend reports with reference to the National Bank.

According to the data, the value of country’s international reserves increased by 4.1 percent compared to last month and by 13.5 percent more than as of the end of 2019.

“International reserves overall, i.e. including the foreign currency denominated assets of the National Fund ($57.7 billion) equaled $90.5 billion as at the end of Jun. 2020,” the report said.

Net foreign exchange reserves of Kazakhstan also increased by 4.2 percent in a month (increase by 13.7 percent compared the December 2019), and equaled $32.3 billion.

In turn, the assets in freely convertible currency have increased by 4.06 percent compared to May 2020 and by 12.3 percent compared to Dec. 2019, having amounted to $11.3 billion.

The country’s assets in gold amounted to $21.5 billion in Jun. 2020, which is 4.2 percent more than in May 2020 and 14.1 percent more than as of the end of 2019.

Deputy Governor of the National Bank Aliya Moldabekova said that these dynamics are associated both with gold price increase and increase in foreign exchange assets.

“In June, we observed an influx of funds into the foreign currency accounts of second-tier banks at the National Bank,” she said.
