In accordance with the preliminary data, Azerbaijan’s economically active population reached 5.2 million people as of Sept. 1, 2020, 4.9 million of them are employed, Trend reports on Sept. 16 referring to Azerbaijan’s State Statistics Committee.
The number of hired employees reached 1.7 million people as of Aug. 1, 2020, including 909,800 people who worked in the public sector of the economy, 771,400 people in the private sector. The number of employees in the oil and gas sector reached 34,100 people, in the non-oil sector - 1.6 million people.
Some 24.9 percent of hired employees were working in the enterprises and organizations in the field of production, 8.4 percent of them in construction sector, 7.6 percent in processing sector, 3.4 percent in agriculture, forestry and fish breeding sector, 2 percent - mining industry, 1.8 percent - in the field of water supply, waste treatment and recycling, 1.7 percent - in the production and distribution of electricity, gas and steam.
Some 19.5 percent were working in the field of education, 18.2 percent – in trade, vehicle repair sphere, 8.1 percent - medical and social services, 6.6 percent – public administration, 4.6 percent - in the field of administrative and additional services, 3.4 percent - in scientific and technical activity, 3.3 percent - in the field of recreation, entertainment and art, 1.7 percent - in the field of finance and insurance, 1.1 percent - in other spheres and one percent - in the field of real estate transactions.
As of September 1, 2019, the economically active population reached 5.1 million people.
