Azerbaijan shares data on bank deposits in foreign currency

Bank deposits of Azerbaijan’s population in foreign currency amounted to 4.1 billion manat ($2.41 billion) in the first 3 months of 2021, which is 9.9 percent less compared to the same period of 2020, Trend reports citing the statistical report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

The share of deposits of the population in foreign currency made up 50.3 percent of all deposits, the CBA report said.

According to the CBA, the indicator of the volume of deposits of the population, including funds of individuals engaged in entrepreneurship, in national currency for the reporting period reached 4.05 billion manat ($2.38 billion), which demonstrates an increase of 9.3 percent over the year.

As reported, the share of deposits of the population in the national currency is 49.7 percent of the total volume of deposits of the population.

“The total volume of bank deposits of the Azerbaijani population, including funds of individuals engaged in individual entrepreneurial activities, amounted to 8.15 billion manat ($4.79 billion) during the reporting period, a decrease of 1.3 percent on annual basis,” the report said.

“The deposits of residents and non-residents reach 7.87 billion manat ($4.63 billion) and 279.4 million manat ($164.3 million), respectively. On annual basis, the investments of residents increased by 73.3 million manat ($43.1 million) or 0.9 percent, while investments of non-residents decreased by 177.6 million manat (38.9 percent),” noted the report.

The total volume of deposits in Azerbaijani banks as of early April 2021 amounted to about 23.8 billion manat ($14 billion), which is 1.1 percent less than the same period last year.
