BAKU, Azerbaijan, May 23

By Zeyni Jafarov - Trend:

As of early April 2021, the volume of securities turnover at par in the Azerbaijani capital market increased by 76.1 percent compared to early April 2020, Trend reports with reference to the statistics report of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan (CBA).

In accordance with the data, the volume of trade turnover of securities reached 2.8 billion manat ($1.6 billion). Some 2.03 billion manat ($1.2 billion) of that amount accounted for the state bonds while 820 million manat ($482 million) - for the CBA’s notes.

The share of the state bonds in the securities market as of early April amounted to 71.2 percent while the CBA’s notes - 28.8 percent.

Starting from 2021, the auctions for the placement of the CBA’s notes are mainly used to regulate liquidity.

The auctions on notes are preferable to deposit auctions. The main reason is the further development of the interbank monetary market.

The short-term notes are a monetary policy instrument for regulating the money supply in circulation. Only banks can buy notes.
