Uzbekistan resumes gold exports

BAKU, Azerbaijan, June 19

Uzbekistan has exported gold for the first time since September last year, Trend reports with reference to the State Statistics Committee of Uzbekistan.

According to the committee, in May 2021 gold in Uzbekistan was sold for almost $1.2 billion, which had a positive effect on the country's foreign trade turnover.

Earlier it was reported when Uzbekistan will resume gold exports. It was noted, Uzbekistan was expecting a peak in gold prices.

Also, according to the indicators of gold exports since 2010 published by the Central Bank of Uzbekistan, over the past period the country has sold 687 tons of gold.

State Statistics Committee reports that Uzbekistan’s foreign trade turnover from January through May 2021 reached $14.5 billion, increasing by $1.7 billion compared to the same period in 2020 (an increase of 13.2 percent).

Of the total volume of foreign trade turnover, exports amounted to $5.7 billion (an increase of 14 percent compared to 5M2020), and imports - $8.8 billion (12.7 percent). As a result, the foreign trade balance amounted to a passive balance of $3.1 billion.

At the same time, the total number of exporting entities during the reporting period amounted to 4,468 units, which brought the volume of exports without gold to $4.5 billion.
