The number of plastic cards in circulation amounted to 57.7 million cards as of November 1, 2021, in Kazakhstan, which is 27.1 percent more than as of November 1, 2020 (45.4 million cards), Trend reports with reference to Kazakhstan’s National Bank.
Of the total number of cards in circulation, 42.5 million cards were debit cards, 13.4 million cards were credit cards, and 1.7 million were other types of cards.
Furthermore, of the total number of cards in circulation, 29.5 million were used as of November 1, 2021, compared to 25.6 million cards last year, which indicates a 15.04 percent increase year-on-year.
The largest number of debit cards in circulation was registered in Shymkent city (13.5 million cards). Shymkent city is followed by Almaty city (3.5 million cards) and Nur-Sultan city (2.5 million cards).
In turn, the greatest number of credit cards also was registered in Shymkent city (4.7 million cards), which is followed by Nur-Sultan (1.2 million cards) and Almaty city (1.08 million cards).
The total number of payment systems operating in Kazakhstan is 17, including those of the National Bank, systems of money transfers, and systems of plastic cards.
