BAKU, Azerbaijan, February 15. Azerbaijan prioritizes addressing global issues associated with climate change, said Acting Minister of Ecology and Natural Resources of Azerbaijan, President of the 29th session of the Conference of the Parties to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29) Mukhtar Babayev, Trend reports.
Babayev made the statement during the forum "Tax System in the New Development Period: Strategic Goals for a Sustainable Economy" held in Baku.
"Global climate change, a major environmental concern, has far-reaching consequences for not just ecological but also economic and social aspects of sustainable development. As an active member of the international community, Azerbaijan focuses on tackling global concerns," he noted.
"To mitigate the effects of climate change, Azerbaijan has made real efforts, such as increasing renewable energy usage and developing more efficient green technology. The proposed measure seeks to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from economic activity by establishing and regulating a system of carbon credits and carbon trading," the official pointed out.
"In order to absorb harmful gases emitted into the atmosphere and create a healthy environmental situation, numerous events are being carried out in the country to plant trees, forests, and agricultural gardens to expand forests and green areas. About four million trees were planted in the country in 2023 alone," Babayev added.
To note, the forum "Tax system in the new development period: Strategic Goals for a Sustainable Economy" in Baku discussed new challenges in the field of tax administration. Within the framework of the forum, opinions were exchanged on the increasing role of tax authorities in economic regulation, priorities for the development of the business environment, the active participation of entrepreneurs in the formation of budget revenues, and building "state-business" transparent relations.
