BAKU, Azerbaijan, April 23. Electricity production from renewable sources, including hydropower, in Azerbaijan during the first quarter of 2024 amounted to 610.1 million kWh, or eight percent of total electricity generation, Trend reports via the X page of the country's Minister of Energy Parviz Shahbazov.

This volume included 439.3 million kWh produced by hydroelectric power plants (against 277.9 million kWh from January through March 2023).

Solar power plants (SPPs) generated 89.5 million kWh in the first quarter of this year, compared to 13.4 million kWh in the same period last year.

Meanwhile, solid household waste plants produced 67 million kWh (against 62 million kWh from January through March 2023), while wind energy plants (WPPs) - 14.3 million kWh, compared to 15.5 million kWh for the first quarter of 2023.

In 2023, thanks to such renewable energy sources in Azerbaijan, electricity generation amounted to 2.1 billion kWh.

Of this, over 1.7 billion kWh fell on hydroelectric power plants, 56.6 million kWh - WPPs, 79.4 million kWh - SPPs, and nearly 223 million kWh - the solid household waste plant last year.

To note, as of 2023, the share of the renewable energy sector in the total electricity production in Azerbaijan for the reporting period amounted to seven percent.
