( Engadget ) - The new P-170 FX laptop lineup from Gateway might look a bit bulky, but there's quite a bit of tech under the hood. At the "low-end," the P-170 FX1 runs a Core 2 Duo T7250 processor, 17-inch 1440 x 900 screen, 3GB of RAM, 250GB HDD, multi-format DVD burner, 5-in-1 media reader, GeForce 8800M GTS graphics with 512MB of RAM, 802.11n WiFi and a 9 cell battery. For $1,600 it's not a bad package, but if you've got a few grand in pocket, you might want to look into the $3,000 P-170FX MAX, which bumps everything up a notch. There's a X7900 Core 2 Extreme processor, 1920 x 1200 screen, 400GB 7200RPM SATA HDD and a HD DVD disc drive. The P-170 FX2 pretty much splits the difference at $2000. The laptops should be available soon on Gateway's online store.
