CATEL Extends CDMA Coverage Zone in Kurdemir region of Azerbaijan

Azerbaijan, Baku, 26 January / corr. Trend S. Babayeva/ The coverage zone of CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) mobile network extended to Kurdemir region of Azerbaijan, CDMA said.

Base station have been installed in the region which will serve the subscribers of Kurdemir and other

neighboring settlements as well.

"At present the similar station is being installed in Agstafa which is scheduled to become operational soon," the company said.

The coverage zone of FONEX mobile network (CATEL trade mark) includes Baku, Sumgait and Absheron peninsular, Ganja, Shamkir, Ali-Bayramli, Mingachevir, Yevlakh, Devechi, Ujar, Balakan and Nabran.

CATEL plans to extend its coverage zone to all regions of Azerbaijan in the future. The subscribers of CATEL total to 30, 000 15,000 out of which are the subscribers of the CDMA network.

Terminal capacitance of CDMA network of CATEL amounts to 50,000 numbers, however the company plans to extend the current terminal capacitance to 100,000 numbers by adding major components.

CATEL has been providing services in 3G CDMA standard since the mid-2003, and the official opening of the CDMA network took place on 13 August 2004.
