Azerbaijan, Baku, 28 January / Trend / Research held by the Azerbaijani Communication and IT Ministry revealed a huge potential in electron trade development in the country, the Ministry's press-services reported.

Manufacturers are interested in developing the electronic trade. However, most electronic shops are operating an off-line regime and focused in Baku.

The research process covers several stages. Initially, the project on introduction of an electronic trade was implemented from September 2006 to March 2007.

Within the framework of the project several trips to the Guba-Khachmaz, Lankaran-Nefchala, Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, Maingachevir-Shaki, Barda and Shamakha-Ismayilli-Gabala regions of Azerbaijan were made. About 300 samples of popular trade data were produced.

Another project to develop a set of recommendations to establish electronic shops in the country was launched in April 2007. The research revealed the varieties of commodities and services that should be implemented within the project. A poll was held in more than 200 drug stores, 70 restaurants, and 20 dress and accessory shops.

The Ministry noted that in spite of the huge potential of the electronic trade in the country it has a low use among the population due to computer illiteracy, shortage of companies and specialists.

The Ministry considers that development of business structure plays an important role in the development of the electronic trade in the country.
