Baku Metro discloses figures of innovative equipment purchased in 2019

BAKU, Azerbaijan, Dec. 27

Thirty subway cars of a new type were imported to Baku in according to the agreement Baku Metro concluded with Russia's Metrowagonmash in January 2019, Baku Metro spokesperson Bakhtiyar Mammadov told Trend.

According to Mammadov, currently, 55 new cars are operating in the subway system of Baku.

"New cars belong to the modern, fourth generation in terms of innovation and are made on the basis of the customer's specifications," Mammadov said.

The spokesman added that the trains with a maximum speed of 90 kilometers per hour have cars with wider doors, which makes boarding and deboarding more convenient and faster.

"The open gangway trains increase passenger traffic by 15 percent, ensures even distribution, comfort and safety of passengers throughout the train," Mammadov said.

Metrovagonmash OJSC, currently part of Russia's Transmashholding, has been a partner of Baku Metro CJSC since 1966.

In 2015, Baku Metro acquired three new trains (15 rail cars), in 2018 - two trains (10 rail cars), and in 2019 - six trains (30 rail cars) produced by Metrovagonmash OJSC.
