The first toll highway in Azerbaijan will be commissioned until the end of May 2020 and will be an alternative to part of the Baku-Guba-Russian Federation state border highway, Spokesman for the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads Anar Najafli told Trend.
“By the end of May 2020, it is planned to commission a 100-kilometer section of the first toll highway, which runs parallel to part of the Baku-Guba-Russian Federation state border highway, along the coast of the Caspian Sea, starting from the 45th kilometer of the highway. The new road will be the first toll highway in Azerbaijan,” said the spokesman.
The remaining section of the new highway with a length of 57 kilometers is planned to be commissioned till the end of the second half of 2021, Najafli added.
He also noted that, Azerbaijan has not yet experienced toll highways, so the the first time operation of the toll highway will be free, and then in the future, toll points will be installed on the entire section (157 km).
This section will facilitate passenger and cargo transportation, including transit, and will also lead to the simplification of transportation, as it will connect the Russian border not only with Baku, but also with the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC), Najafli emphasized.
The toll highway project was developed in 2018 in accordance with the decree of Azerbaijan’s president. The construction of this road is carried out by the State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads, which is also responsible for its implementation.
