Uzbekistan has completed reconstruction and modernization of Bukhara International Airport, Trend reports citing Uzbekistan National News Agency.

Uzbek Mukhtasham Kurilish Montaj construction company implemented the project on reconstruction and modernization of the old passenger terminal, the message said.

As reported, 1.45 billion soum ($44,075) was spent on the construction and repair work, as well as on installing appropriate equipment and devices at the facility.

In October 2011, a terminal with international status was built at the airport, which can serve 400 passengers per hour. However, during the peak tourist season the airport had to accept or send two or even four flights simultaneously. At such moments, long queues were observed at checkpoints, while loading and unloading luggage took a long time.

Following the project completion, the passenger traffic at the terminal has increased by 250 persons to 650 passengers an hour. In addition, all necessary conditions have been created in the waiting rooms.

Since October 1, 2019, the “open skies” mode using the “fifth air freedom” was launched at the airports of Karshi, Nukus and Termez of Uzbekistan, and "the fifth air freedom" was used in the air harbor of Bukhara when transporting foreign citizens.
