Iran reveals number of wagons needed for Tehran metro

BAKU, Azerbaijan, August 10

By Elnur Baghishov – Trend:

Iran’s Tehran city metro needs 1,500 wagons, deputy mayor of Tehran city for Transport Manaf Hashemi said an event dedicated to the presentation of the first metro wagon in Iran, Trend reports citing IRINN.

Hashemi noted that at present, contracts have been signed with two Iranian companies for the production of 105 metro wagons.

He added that in addition, the signing of a contract with China on the production of 630 wagons is being discussed.

The official said that for all these contracts, large funds are required. Due to the difficult conditions created by the coronavirus in Iran, the Tehran Mayor's Office cannot pay these funds and state resources must be used.

"At present, Tehran metro can carry 2 million passengers. If 1,500 wagons are provided, the metro's passenger capacity will increase to 6 million people," he said.

The presentation of the first metro wagon produced in Iran was held today (August 10) in Tehran. About 85 percent of the spare parts used in the production of metro wagon are made in Iran.

In addition, a 7-wagons metro train produced in Iran will be put into operation in Tehran city by the end of the current Iranian year (March 20, 2020 - March 21, 2021).
