Number of foreign companies eye investing in Uzbekistan’s machine-building industry

A number of foreign companies are showing interest in investing in Uzbekistan’s machine-building industry and organizing the production of cars, Trend reports referring to the press service of the president of Uzbekistan.

The President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev said in a piece on the Uzbekistan 24 TV channel that private investors offer to implement eight projects for the production of cars worth $276 million in Jizzakh, Navoi, Fergana, Namangan, Andijan and Tashkent regions.

“Today we have proposals from eight foreign companies interested in setting up production facilities in the country. A regulation on the industrial assembly of cars on the territory of Uzbekistan will be prepared and approved within 10 days in order to stimulate their activities, create equal conditions. It will create conditions under which cars will be produced that meet the expectations of consumers,” the president said.

He also added that this will lead to lower prices, an expansion of the model range of cars, the creation of a competitive environment, and as a result of Uzbekistan’s consumers will benefit.

It was also noted that the regulation on industrial assembly will define uniform standards for all market participants.

In addition, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev instructed to create an office for the transformation of Uzavtosanoat's activities and introduce equal conditions for manufacturers based on the level of localization. It is planned to establish the production of 50,000-60,000 budget cars and electric vehicles per year.

Earlier it was reported that several companies in Uzbekistan intend to master the production and assembly of cars, pickups, trucks, minivans and other cars in 2021-2023.
