Volume of cargo movement in Iran’s Amirabad port announced

A total of 2.4 million tons of cargo were loaded and unloaded in the Amirabad port of Mazandaran Province (northern Iran) over the last Iranian year (from March 20, 2020 through March 20, 2021), Director General of the Amirabad Ports and Maritime Department Mohammad Ali Saeedipour said, Trend reports citing the Iranian Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO).

Saeedipour stressed that this cargo was loaded and unloaded on 650 ships.

“About 1.9 million tons of cargo were unloaded and 5,000 tons were loaded in the Amirabad port during the reporting period,” he added.

The director general noted that the Amirabad port is the main container port in northern Iran. About 918 TEU of containers were loaded and unloaded at the port in the last Iranian year.

According to Saeedipour, about 70,000 tons of cargo were transported through railways from this port in the last Iranian year. The cargo transportation via railways from the port increased by 104 percent compared to the preceding Iranian year (from March 21, 2019 through March 19, 2020).

Reportedly, the Amirabad port is located on an area of 1,060 hectares of land. There are 15 platforms with a length of 2,600 meters in this port. The port has the potential to receive 7.5 million tons of cargo a year. The port has 200 hectares of uncovered and 6.5 hectares of covered warehouses.
