Azerbaijani ports increased handling volume of cargo from January through August 2021, Trend reports with reference to the Azerbaijani State Statistics Committee.

According to the ministry, this indicator amounted to over 5.9 million tons, up by 114,000 tons or almost two percent on annual basis.

Some 5.6 million tons of that volume accounted for the transshipment of international transit cargo by the ports or 95.3 percent of the total cargo volume, which is by 67,700 tons or 1.2 percent more compared to the first eight months of last year.

As of early August, there were 156,300 tons of cargo in the Azerbaijani ports.

Some 8.8 million tons of cargo were transported through the Azerbaijani seaports in 2020, of which 8.2 million tons or 93.2 percent, accounted for international transit cargo, while 7.8 percent - for local cargo.
